Crane Operations on York Road this weekend


We will have a partial lane closure on York road this weekend (13-14 May 2017) as a huge 500-tonne crane is on site to lift six 25-metre, 40-tonne steel beams into place above the new Waterloo Underground Station entrance.  The beams will support the ceiling of the large ticket hall, as well as the 28-storey building above it.

The tower cranes on site aren’t big enough to lift these beams, so we’ve brought in this enormous mobile crane specially for the job.

The crane will be set up and the first two beams unloaded in the early hours of Saturday morning, with the remaining four being loaded early on Sunday morning.

The crane operations are carried out overnight to minimise the disruption to traffic…
